Public dislikes tax hikes, spending cuts
Now that the 2009 state budget has been signed into law two months ahead of last year's pace, there won't be a government shutdown this year.
That doesn't mean voters are happy. About 87 percent of those polled in a recent survey sponsored by Detroit Renaissance say Lansing has done a fair or poor job balancing the state's budget and setting spending priorities............
