Tightened Rules For "Head Of Household" Status

Claiming "Head of Household" Just Got Harder

When it comes to income taxes, a "dependent child" is a dependent child, yes? But Congress more or less unified the five different definitions of the term, starting in 2005. So now the one definition applies when calculating head-of-household filing status, the exemption for a dependent, the child tax credit, the child and dependent care credit and the earned-income tax credit.

Once you come across a dedicated Daycare Provider you begin to understand that working in the Child Care field is a labor of love and certainly not a labor for monetsry gain. According to Madga Martinez, UNM Career Works, "Providers earn $12,058 per year on average, and seldom receive benifits or paid leave."
