Michigan Mail-Order Prescription Law Signed By Governor Granholm
Governor Granholm has signed legislation that allows Michigan pharmacists to sell and dispense prescription drugs by mail.
The three-bill package is intended to help pharmacists compete with large mail-order prescription drug companies.Pharmacies previously faced a $5,000 fine each time they used mail-order services.
The ban on filling prescriptions received by mail has hurt local pharmacies in recent years.More health care plans are now requiring or giving incentives to customers who get their drugs from mail-order companies to keep down costs.
The new law allows the state's Medicaid program to use in-state pharmacies to supply medicine to participants. The program previously had to use those out-of-state because of the restriction.
